Special Alert!

PIA National has launched a nationwide Grassroots Action Alert asking all PIA members to contact their Members of Congress, to let them know that they oppose H.R. 5840 in its current form. H.R. 5840 grants one, unelected political appointee in Washington, D.C. – the Treasury Secretary – the power to preempt any state insurance law, regulation or practice. Under the bill, this can happen without any action by Congress, the states or the courts.

PIA believes that H.R. 5840 is the first step in the campaign to create a system of federal insurance regulation.  We believe that H.R. 5840 will also be used to advance dual regulation under an Optional Federal Charter.

Get involved and get your voice heard on Capitol Hill!  Your participation in PIA’s Federal Legislative Summit and District Lobbying Day sends a strong and clear message to your legislators about what is important to you and to your livelihood.  You may only be one individual, but when PIA members from across America act together they can move mountains. The more agents like you get involved, the more America’s Congressmen and women will see the strength in numbers that spur them to act on your behalf.

Occasionally, usually at a critical juncture for a piece of legislation or issue, PIA National seeks the support of PIA members and other independent agents to help legislators on Capitol Hill understand PIA's stances on issues that are important to independent insurance agents. At these times action alerts will be posted on PIA National's Online Grassroots Action Center and an email will be sent to members either nationally or in specific states/congressional districts. Alerts usually include sample language that should be used in letters and emails as well as any other actions that should be taken.
