For the third year in a row, PIA members will make August the time for grassroots political involvement by Professional Insurance Agents across the country.
When Congress takes its summer recess, Members of Congress head to their home districts. There, they get back in touch with their constituents, up-close and personal. From community events to town hall meetings, parades to building dedications, our elected representatives spend August “at home,” where the people who can re-elect them are. They also hold one-on-one meetings with their constituents.
PIA is asking each PIA member to make an effort to engage their elected officials and Congressional candidates, to promote the points of view of Professional Insurance Agents and to forge relationships with those who will serve them in Washington, DC.
PIA’s District Lobbying Day, August 6, will be the focal point of PIA members’ visits to their Members of Congress in their district offices. The goal is to get as many PIA members as possible to schedule appointments on or around August 6 to have a conversation with their elected officials or staff members in their offices. This is your chance to talk about a few issues that concern you as an independent agent and small businessperson. If you’re further inclined to get involved in a reelection campaign, this is a great time to let the candidate know that you are a supporter and want to help.
District Lobbying Day along with Political Involvement and Advocacy Month are part of what we like to call, “Capitol Hill in Your Backyard.” Political Involvement and Advocacy Month consists of a series of suggested activities you can engage in locally. The calendar on the Political Involvement and Advocacy Month web page provides PIA members with a series of involvement suggestions, but whatever you choose to do and whenever you choose to do it is completely up to you, and the schedules of your Congressman and Senators. Start planning your own involvement now by checking out the 2008 DLD and PIA Month web pages now!
